Refs Gone Wild

Is there something in common between Tim Duncan's ejection and the abysmally reffed NCAA tourney earlier this month? ESPN's Pat Forde certainly thinks so. Forde is a noted ref defender, so his new column Hey Ref ... Give it a Rest is completely out of character.

But then again so is officiating of late:

  • A ref actually challenging Tim Duncan to a fight.
  • Refs absolutely destroying the Final Four by handcuffing All-Americans Greg Oden, Roy Hibbert and Aaron Afflalo.
  • It wasn't just the Final Four: did you know in the 2nd round alone, games averaged 38 personal fouls each?
  • How about this: fans got to watch 1,981 free throws in the first two rounds. That's scintillating basketball.

Look, I respect all officials, and I think in general they take too much crap from all of us. And I admit my few ventures reffing were terrible: I cannot do that job. But that doesn't mean the refs don't mess up sometimes, too. And it doesn't mean they don't need some redirection from time to time. And now is that time.

Erik, I have already explained this to you and you said you understood regarding the officiating in the NCAA's. If you don't want officials blowing the whistle, then BACK OFF!! I promise that they don't want to blow it or be noticed either and you know how I know that. They didn't ruin the tournament, the rough play is ruining it. And regarding Tim Duncan, it's the NBA. Who cares??

Wow I just noticed the Royals don't have the lowest winning percentage in baseball, that belongs to Philly. Too bad they are in the division with the best 2 teams in baseball.
